Excerpt from Statements at the Beginning of the Advanced Jurisprudence Class Regarding the Myanmar Catastrophe
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Before we enter the discussion, one truly does not know how to justify this catastrophic issue in Myanmar; it is indeed an unprecedented incident; before the eyes of Islamic countries, Islamic governments, before one and a half billion Muslims, before the eyes of the global human rights claiming organizations and the deceitful governments, a ruthless government led by a woman who has received the Nobel Peace Prize is killing a defenseless group of people, burning them, destroying their homes, and expelling them. It is truly a strange incident, and no real reaction is observed. Yes, they condemn it, but what good is condemnation? They issue statements; what effect do they have? Action must be taken.
Firstly, instead of clarifying the truth of the matter to the people, they frame it as a Buddhist-Muslim issue; yes, there may be a few religious fanatics influencing this matter, but it is a government that is doing this; it is a political issue. At the head of that government is a woman who has received the Nobel Peace Prize. They have read the fate of the Nobel Peace Prize with this action. Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to such a ruthless person! A woman and so ruthless! One truly marvels at the situation humanity is facing in the world.
The solution is that Muslim governments must actively intervene; we do not say they should invade there, but they should exert political pressure, economic pressure; there are dozens of Muslim countries and governments that may have some trade relations, economic relations; they should exert pressure on that government through those means, remind them, repeat it, and raise their voices against them in global forums; these actions must be taken. Otherwise, if we just sit in a corner and condemn, what good is this condemnation? The Secretary-General of the United Nations has condemned it; he has worked hard! It must have a practical effect. Where their policies dictate, sometimes due to the pressure on a criminal in a country, they raise the earth to the sky, they shout, they scream, because a criminal has been punished somewhere! But here, several thousand people have been killed - the exact numbers are not specified; they do not allow the statistics to be known - tens of thousands have been displaced, and unfortunately, no reaction is observed at all. This is a very significant incident; yes, the nations are angry, they are upset, protests and demonstrations are taking place in Muslim countries, but governments must act; governments must act. They must be asked to take this action; the members of the Islamic Conference should hold a session specifically for this issue, gather together; discuss what actions can be taken for these Muslims.
Unfortunately, the world is a world of oppression; the Islamic Republic must maintain the honor of speaking openly and explicitly against oppression; whether this oppression is in the occupied territories by the Zionists, whether it is in Yemen and the bombing of the people of Yemen, whether it is in Bahrain, whether it is in Myanmar, or any other point; the Islamic Republic must adopt its courageous and explicit stance regarding these issues.
