New Year Message of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O Turner of hearts and sights, O Manager of night and day, O Transformer of years and conditions, transform our state to the best state.
O God, send blessings upon Your beloved, the Lady of the Women of the Worlds, Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family). O God, send blessings upon her and her father, her husband, and her children. O God, be for Your Wali (guardian), the Hujjat ibn al-Hasan (may Your blessings be upon him and his forefathers) in this hour and in every hour, a guardian, protector, leader, supporter, guide, and eye until You settle him in Your land willingly and grant him long enjoyment therein. O God, grant him in himself, his offspring, his followers, his subjects, his special ones, his general ones, and his enemies, and all the people of the world what will please his eye and delight his soul.
I congratulate all our dear compatriots across the country, and all Iranians in every corner of the world, and all nations that honor Nowruz; especially our dear martyrs, the families of martyrs, the Disabled Veterans and their families, and all those who are engaged in serving the Islamic system and our dear country. We hope that the Almighty God makes this day and this beginning of the year a source of joy, prosperity, and vitality for our nation, and grants us success and support in fulfilling our duties. I would like to remind our dear compatriots that the days of Fatimiyyah fall in the middle of the holiday, and honoring and respecting these days is necessary for all of us.
The moment of transition and the time of delivery is, in fact, a boundary between an end and a beginning; the end of the past year and the beginning of the new year. Of course, our main focus should be forward; we should look at the new year, prepare ourselves for it, and plan accordingly; however, looking back and reflecting on the path we have taken is also beneficial for us, to see what we have done, how we have moved, what the results of our work have been, and to learn lessons and gain experience.
The year 1391 (2012) was, like all years, a diverse year with various colors and patterns; it had sweetness and bitterness; it had victories and setbacks. Human life throughout existence is always like this; it is accompanied by ups and downs; what is important is that we rise from the lows and reach the highs.
What was clear and evident throughout the year 1391 regarding our confrontation with global arrogance was the enemies' harshness towards the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic system. Of course, the apparent issue was the enemies' harshness; however, the essence of the matter was the resilience of the Iranian nation and its victory in various fields. What our enemies targeted were various arenas; primarily the economic and political arenas. In the economic arena, they stated and emphasized that they wanted to paralyze the Iranian nation through sanctions; however, they could not paralyze the Iranian nation, and we, with God's grace and the favor of the Lord, achieved significant progress in various fields; the details of which have been communicated to our dear nation and will be communicated; I, God willing, will briefly present some points in my speech on the first of Farvardin (April 1), health permitting.
In the economic sphere, of course, pressure was exerted on the people, and problems arose; especially since there were also issues internally; some shortcomings and negligence occurred that aided the enemies' plans; but overall, the movement of the system and the people has been a forward movement, and God willing, we will see the effects and results of this resilience in the future.
In the political arena, on one hand, their aim was to isolate the Iranian nation, and on the other hand, to create doubt and hesitation among the Iranian people; they sought to weaken and diminish their resolve. The exact opposite occurred; in fact, the opposite happened. Regarding the isolation of the Iranian nation, not only were they unable to limit our international and logical policies, but even examples such as the Non-Aligned Movement summit held in Tehran with the presence of a large number of leaders and officials from around the world were established, which contradicted what our enemies wanted and showed that the Islamic Republic is not only not isolated, but is viewed with respect and honor in the world.
In terms of internal issues, our dear people, wherever there was an opportunity to express their feelings—mainly on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11)—showed what was necessary for a fervent and enthusiastic presence; they participated in a more passionate and concentrated manner than in previous years. Another example was the presence of the people of North Khorasan amidst the sanctions, which illustrated the status and spirit of the Iranian nation towards the Islamic system and their serving officials. Great works have also been accomplished, thanks be to God, throughout the year; scientific efforts, infrastructural projects, and significant activity from officials and the people. The grounds for forward movement and, God willing, a leap have been prepared; both in the economic sphere and in the political sphere, and in all other vital areas.
The year 1392 (2013) will be a year of progress and dynamism for the Iranian nation, according to the hopeful outlook drawn by God's grace and the efforts of the Muslim people; not in the sense that the enmity of the enemies will diminish, but in the sense that the readiness of the Iranian nation will increase, and its presence will be more effective, and the construction of the future of this nation will be achieved by their own hands and with their capable efforts, God willing, better and more hopeful.
Of course, what we have ahead in 1392 is primarily in two important areas: economy and politics. In the economic sphere, attention must be paid to national production, just as it was the slogan of the past year. Of course, some actions have been taken; however, promoting national production and supporting Iranian work and capital is a long-term issue; it cannot be accomplished in one year. Fortunately, in the second half of 1391, national production policies were approved and communicated—meaning this work was set on track—so that the parliament and the government can plan and initiate a good movement, and God willing, they will proceed with high ambition and diligence.
In the political sphere, the major task of 1392 is the presidential election, which will essentially plan the executive and political destinies, and in a sense, the general destinies of the country for the next four years. God willing, the people will be able to shape a bright future for the country and for themselves with their presence in this arena. Of course, it is necessary that both in the economic and political spheres, the people's presence be a jihadist presence. They must enter with fervor and enthusiasm, with high ambition and hopeful outlook, with hearts full of hope and vitality, and through creating fervor, they must achieve their goals.
With this perspective, we name the year 1392 as the "Year of Political Epic and Economic Epic" and hope that, by God's grace, the economic and political epic in this year will be realized by our dear people and the devoted officials of the country.
In hope of the Lord's attentions and the prayers of His Holiness, the Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him), and with greetings to the pure spirit of Imam Khomeini (may his soul be sanctified) and the dear martyrs.
Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings.
